Internal Medicine

To find the adequate therapy the specialists of the equine clinic Wolfesing use ECG, sonography, endoscopy and blood gas analysis.

Resting and exercise ECG:

Identification of heart disease in sports and recreation horses is vitally important for both: the safety of the rider and the performance of the horse. Resting and exercise ECGs are suitable for diagnostic investigations in the clinic and also as part of prepurchase exams.

Colour doppler sonography:

As part of the cardiac diagnostics, the specialized veterinarians of the equine clinic Wolfesing work with colour doppler sonography. With this special technique heart disease can be diagnosed precisely. Furthermore the velocity of the blood in the heart and the blood vessels can be measured. With this special examination blood streams in the heart and in the blood vessels can be quantified. Conclusions can therefore be drawn about diagnostic findings and the horse's capability to perform.

Video endoscopy:

We hold the newest equipment for lung diagnostics using video endoscopy with access to all accessible areas of the lungs. Additionally we are able to use the equipment for performing gastroscopy with high resolution images. This enables detections of gastric ulcers at an early stage and specific treatment.

Overground endoscopy:

Next to the resting endoscopy of the upper airways we also offer the dynamic endo- scopy of the horses airways. The dynamic endoscopy is a diagnostic procedure for use in horses that make a respiratory noise only during exercise and/ or show poor perfor- mance. Therefore we use the modern “overground endoscope” which enables us to perform endoscopic examination of upper airways under normal individual training conditions of your horse.

Blood gas analysis:

Blood gas analysis, by means of laboratory tests, provides the treating veterinarian with accurate data about arterial oxygen saturation and the acid-base state of the patient. In the equine clinic Wolfesing, a portable blood gas analyzer is used in addition to the stationary one. Furthermore many other analyses are made in the in-house laboratory.
